Firefighters prevented a potentially devastating spread after a fierce blaze destroyed a wooden dwelling in Hopewell, Christ Church, on Wednesday evening, with nearby homes narrowly spared in what officials described as a close-call incident.

Ten emergency responders, led by Divisional Officer Tremelle Perch and Station Officer Charmaine Sandiford, arrived aboard two fire tenders from the Worthing and Bridgetown fire stations to find the wooden building already heavily engulfed in flames.

Despite the intensity of the inferno, firefighters reportedly mounted an aggressive defence to protect adjacent homes situated just feet away from the burning building. Divisional Officer Perch confirmed that the prompt arrival and tactical response of the crews were vital in preventing a far greater tragedy within the community.
