Magdalena sends staff home as financial pressures mount

THE Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort has temporarily sent home some of its staff.

According to an official letter issued to staff on Tuesday, over the past two months, the president of e TecK, which owns and oversees the Stateowned hotel, has met with employees and staff raised concerns regarding the hotel's operating position and the need for measures to improve its financial and operational sustainability. The hotel continues to experience reduced meetings, business activity, low occupancy levels, constraints in its available room inventory and significant financial pressures.

'In light of these circumstances, management has undertaken a review of the hotel's immediate staffing requirements to ensure that its workforce is appropriately aligned with the present level of operations, while maintaining the staffing and skills necessary to continue essential Hotel services. As an interim measure, you have therefore been identified for temporary lay-off and annual vacation leave you currently have accrued annual vacation leave available to you,' the letter stated.
