A police officer has been arrested and formally charged with misbehaviour in public office following an internal investigation into discrepancies involving narcotics exhibits at the Barataria Police Station, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) confirmed on Saturday.
The officer, whose identity has not yet been released, is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
According to the TTPS, the investigation was launched after inconsistencies were discovered in the number of drug packets submitted as evidence following an anti-narcotics operation conducted in the Macoya Industrial Area. That operation, led by the DCP Operations Unit, had resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of 89 packets of suspected cannabis.
