Education allocation dips but more funding for AI and laptops

While education and skills training continues to receive the largest allocation in the national budget, funding for the sector has dipped compared with the previous fiscal year.
The sector has been allocated $8.033 billion for fiscal 2026-2027, $743 million less than the $8.776 billion allocated in 2025-2026.
Despite the reduction, it remains the third-highest allocation to education and skills training over the past seven years.
