PresÂiÂdent of the Trinidad and ToÂbaÂgo AgÂgreÂgate ProÂducÂers AlÂliance (TTAÂPA), Nigel Tenia, is callÂing on the GovÂernÂment to grant an imÂmeÂdiÂate moraÂtoÂriÂum on sand and gravÂel opÂerÂaÂtions, as the secÂtor has been opÂerÂatÂing withÂout forÂmal liÂcences for more than two decades.
SpeakÂing on CNC3's The MornÂing Brew yesÂterÂday, Tenia said the moraÂtoÂriÂum would proÂvide temÂpoÂrary leÂgal proÂtecÂtion for hunÂdreds of opÂerÂaÂtors while the MinÂistry of EnÂerÂgy and EnÂerÂgy InÂdusÂtries works to fix what he deÂscribed as a “broÂken and arÂchaÂic” liÂcensÂing process.
“We are not askÂing for letÂters to opÂerÂate,” Tenia stressed. “We are askÂing for a moraÂtoÂriÂum — a strucÂtured, leÂgal bridge so that we can fix this process toÂgethÂer.”
