Police carried out a series of operations across the island between Tuesday, and Wednesday, resulting in multiple arrests, seizures of firearms, narcotics, and contraband, as well as enforcement of unpaid gaming taxes.
On Tuesday morning, officers from the Port of Spain Division, led by ASP Cadette and supported by the Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) Criminal Tax Division, Customs Officers, and multiple police stations, targeted gaming establishments with unpaid taxes. Six establishments were served with BIR notices totaling $4,548,000, and managers were instructed to shut down all gaming machines until the taxes were settled.
Later that afternoon, a Members Club on Ariapita Avenue was served with a BIR gaming tax notice for $2,200,000 in unpaid taxes. Officers seized evidence and $69,511 in cash, and one person was arrested for operating an illegal gaming house.
