National Recovery Strategy for Hurricane Melissa well advanced

Deputy Director General for Sustainable Development and Social Planning at the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), Claire Bernard, says work on a National Recovery Strategy to guide the country's recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa is well advanced.

“We are undertaking that work in collaboration with the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),” she said while speaking during Tuesday’s ‘Recovery to Resilience Round Table’, which highlighted success stories from communities on the front lines of Hurricane Melissa.

The forum was convened at the UNDP office in St Andrew to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, under the theme ‘Resilience Starts at Home’.
