In her New Year’s Day 2026 mesÂsage, PresÂiÂdent ChrisÂtine KanÂgaÂloo said the start of a new year ofÂfered an opÂporÂtuÂniÂty to leave beÂhind what had weighed the naÂtion down while learnÂing from the adÂverÂsiÂties of the past.
She deÂscribed 2025 as a year marked by chalÂlenges that testÂed reÂsilience and creÂativÂiÂty but said it was not an “anÂnus horÂriÂbilis”.
She pointÂed to achieveÂments in sport, inÂcludÂing perÂforÂmances by Keshorn WalÂcott, Jereem Richards and the TrinÂbaÂgo Knight RidÂers, as well as anÂothÂer smooth and peaceÂful tranÂsiÂtion of powÂer, which she said demonÂstratÂed the strength of the counÂtry’s democÂraÂcy.
