(Kaieteur News) – Chaos erupted in the vicinity of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court late Monday afternoon as law enforcement officers moved to disperse a growing crowd of WIN supporters and members of the public gathered to demand the immediate release of Azruddin Mohamed.
What began as a demonstration quickly spiraled into violent clashes between security forces and demonstrators. Eyewitnesses reported that several gunshots rang out in the area as police attempted to push back the gathering crowd. Protesters responded by launching bottles and other missiles directly at police lines.
As tensions flared, a section of the crowd moved toward the neighbouring Stabroek Market area, where a fire was ignited along the roadway.
