The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) will proceed with plans to confer an honorary doctorate on iconic writer and artist Willi Chen, despite his death two weeks ago.
The honorary degree, which was being considered before Chen’s death at age 91, will be conferred posthumously during UTT’s graduation ceremony in November.
Professor Selwyn Cudjoe, executive chairman of UTT’s Board of Governors, made the announcement on Thursday while delivering a eulogy at Chen’s funeral service at the Pro-Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in San Fernando.
