Former foreign affairs minister Dr Amery Browne is warning Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar that she may find herself having to account to the International Criminal Court just like former Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte.
Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday at the office of the Opposition Leader, Browne said: “I want to give a clear warning to the prime minister of this country. I want to refer to this case and it will arise in the future. ...You see, sometimes heads of government feel they can say and do anything for their support base to clap and cheer and there will be no consequences in the future.”
Browne said the US airstrikes carried out against alleged drug-trafficking boats in the Caribbean and the Pacific drew sharp criticism from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights who warned that they violated international human rights law “and must stop immediately”.
