(Kaieteur News) – The Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into the deadly sinking of the MV Barima heads to Region One next week to meet affected families as questions mount over the vessel’s condition, sudden upgrades at its Georgetown departure point, and the Government’s award of a $1.034 billion contract to salvage the wreck.
The commission, chaired by Godfrey Smith, SC, will meet families at the Mabaruma Waterfront on Monday,12th October, at 10:00 hrs, and at the Port Kaituma Community Centre on Tuesday, 13th October, at the same time.
The regional engagements come amid growing frustration among relatives of the dead and missing, who have questioned the pace of the investigation and insisted that the sunken ferry must be recovered to help establish what caused the disaster.
