The American Chamber of Commerce in Guyana (AmCham Guyana) congratulates Citi on the establishment of its representative office in Georgetown, a step that reflects the growing confidence major US financial institutions are placing in Guyana’s economic trajectory.
“Citi’s decision to establish a presence here is a meaningful marker of how far Guyana’s investment landscape has come,” said Iman Cummings, President of AmCham Guyana. “A global institution of this scale positioning itself to our country reflects the growing weight Guyana now carries in international financial and commercial circles.”
Guyana’s rapid GDP growth continues to accelerate: the Ministry of Finance’s Mid-Year Report 2026 recorded real GDP growth of 33.3 percent in the first half of the year, with full-year growth now projected at 20.8 percent, driven substantially by the oil and gas sector, which is itself projected to grow 24.2 percent this year. The same report noted financial and insurance activities among the fastest-growing services subsectors, expanding 12.7 percent in the first half, alongside a 15.5 percent expansion in net domestic credit and 11.5 percent growth in private sector lending. This trajectory has drawn sustained attention from global financial institutions seeking closer proximity to government, to large-scale project financing, and to the corporate banking activity concentrated around the sector. The arrival of a global institution of Citi’s standing signals recognition of that shift and points to the deepening coordination expected between international capital, government, and the major companies shaping the country’s energy-driven growth.
