While murders continue unabated during the State of Emergency (SoE), Minister in the Ministry of National Security, Keith Scotland, says one tangible benefit has been a 45 per cent reduction in the homicide rate compared to this time last year.
Speaking to reporters after cutting the ribbon to reopen the Brasso Police Station on Wednesday, Scotland declined to reveal the specific actions that led to this reduction, saying he did not wish to disclose the methodology. However, he emphasised that serious and more intensive police work, along with greater collaboration among law enforcement agencies, had contributed to the decline.
"That is a tangible benefit. Now, we want more tangible benefits, and we want them to be achieved faster. Even though progress is incremental, it is still not at a satisfactory level. However, it remains a tangible benefit, and we want more," Scotland said.
