There was a quiet celebration in the communities surrounding the Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA) yesterday following the announcement that no Carnival fetes would be hosted at the venue. The decision follows years of complaints by residents that the noise levels had become unbearable.
In the neighbouring communities of Tarouba, Tarodale Settlement, Palmyra, Reform Village, Cocoyea and Harmony Hall, residents were pleased with the news, saying numerous complaints had been filed with the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) in recent years regarding the excessive noise at the facility.
Residents said a petition had also been submitted calling for a ban on Carnival fetes, car shows, and other loud events at the venue.
