Five Lifers Released today After Spending Over 30 and 40 Years in Guyana’ Prisons — BUYDG Welcomes Development and Calls for Continued Action

The Bartica United Youth Development Group (BUYDG), through its Human Rights and Prison Reform Division, welcomes the release of five lifers from custody today.

We understand that the list of five inmates was signed off by the Minister yesterday, their families were subsequently informed, and the inmates were released today, 8 September 2026.

BUYDG considers this an important and welcome development.
