Minister Indar silent as MV Barima victims' families demand recovery of sunken ferry

(Kaieteur News) – Families of the victims of the MV Barima disaster continued their weekly protest on Tuesday in front of the Office of the President, calling for the immediate salvaging of the sunken ferry as Minister within the Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, who is responsible for the recovery process, remains silent on the operation’s progress.

The demonstration was spearheaded by family members of the still-missing Bryan and Kyle Thomas, alongside the family of Neil and Kenrick Cort. The picketing follows the July 18 capsizing of the vessel, which stands as the nation’s worst maritime disaster, claiming 73 confirmed lives and leaving approximately 30 individuals unaccounted for.

The family members held their placards demanding the immediate resignations of Minister Indar and Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill. Relatives maintained that severe regulatory oversight failures directly contributed to the tragedy and argued that administrative accountability remains non-existent.
