By Mark DaCosta- Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed was released from police custody on Wednesday afternoon, hours after his We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party publicly questioned the treatment of him and two aides detained following a reported shooting incident on October 11.
At a press conference on October 14, WIN raised allegations that the detainees were denied medical care and subjected to troubling conditions while being held at separate police stations.
Party officer Duarte Hetsberger told reporters that Mohamed had access to legal counsel but had not received medical attention. He also alleged that party officials, concerned about conditions at the initial lock-up, supplied cardboard so the men would not have to sit or lie directly on the bare floor.
