(Kaieteur News) β The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) says the 14 remaining squatters occupying the Cummings Park area-which falls within the flight zone of the Eugene F. Correia International Airport-will be relocated within the next 10 days.
In a statement posted to its Facebook page on Friday, CH&PA said Chief Executive Officer Dr. Martin Pertab and his team visited the area and stressed the urgency of relocating the informal settlers, citing the safety risks the settlement poses to aviation operations.
Community Development Officer to the CEO, Rawle Aaron, said 14 settlers remain out of an original 89, with most families already resettled in De Endragt and other communities along the East Coast of Demerara. He added that house lots have already been identified and homes constructed at the relocation sites, and that CH&PA is working closely with the remaining residents to complete the exercise within the 10-day window.
