FLORIDA, Jamaica — The countdown is on for Bedward The Musical, the powerful revival of Jamaican playwright Louis Marriott’s celebrated work, which will take place at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center on September 19 and 20.
Presented by the Louise Bennett-Coverley Heritage Council, with support from the Broward County Cultural Affairs and the Board of County Commissioners, the production brings to life the story of Alexander Bedward, the Jamaican preacher, healer and influential religious and social leader whose movement challenged colonial authority and championed faith, dignity and social justice.
At the centre of the production is acclaimed Jamaican actor Ricky Rowe, who portrays Alexander Bedward. Rowe brings the complex historical figure to life, exploring the faith, conviction and influence that made Bedward a significant figure in Jamaica’s history.
