The Unit­ed States Em­bassy in Port of Spain has ad­vised US cit­i­zens in Trinidad and To­ba­go to ex­pect in­creased se­cu­ri­ty ac­tiv­i­ty fol­low­ing the de­c­la­ra­tion of a na­tion­wide State of Emer­gency.

In an ad­vi­so­ry, the em­bassy said the Gov­ern­ment of Trinidad and To­ba­go de­clared the State of Emer­gency on March 2nd, 2026, and it took ef­fect on March 3rd, 2026.

Ac­cord­ing to the ad­vi­so­ry, the mea­sure fol­lowed a spike in vi­o­lent crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty, main­ly linked to or­gan­ised crim­i­nal gangs.
