Officers of the Tunapuna/Piarco Municipal Police Station have arrested and charged a 28-year-old man with possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine, following an incident in Curepe on Tuesday.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Municipal Police Service, the arrest stemmed from routine mobile patrol work within the St. Joseph Policing District. At approximately 4:47 p.m. on August 11, officers W/Ag. Police Corporal Riva Ramlagan, Woman Police Constable Shivana James, and Police Constable Peter Thompson were patrolling near the Chaguanas/Cunupia Taxi Stand on Havelock Street when they noticed a man acting suspiciously while holding a black plastic bag. Police said the man appeared to look toward the officers and then attempted to discard the bag.

The man was stopped, questioned, and searched. Officers reported finding five packets containing a cream-coloured powdery substance, weighing a combined 21.6 grams, suspected to be cocaine. A search of the black bag turned up a further 97.7 grams of plant-like material believed to be marijuana.
