The Assembly of Southern Lawyers (ASL) has expressed gratitude to Chief Justice Ivor Archie following his announcement of retirement during the 2025–2026 law term.
In a statement, the ASL commended Archie for his years of dedicated service, noting his dual role in guiding the judiciary’s jurisprudence while managing its administration under challenging circumstances. “The Chief Justice, as its head, has carried the dual responsibility of guiding its jurisprudence and managing its administration under often challenging circumstances,” the statement said.
At the same time, the ASL highlighted that the judiciary still faces “pressing challenges,” including case backlogs, infrastructural deficiencies, and the urgent need for modernization and adequate resourcing. The group emphasized the importance of transparent and smooth management of the upcoming transition.
