The Ministry of Transport has its eye on the increasing use of mobile devices and mounting apparatus in vehicles, citing added danger as a result of distracted driving.
Transport Minister Eli Zakour said on Tuesday the use of devices, especially for video recording in vehicles and live streaming, was being closely monitored. The Government may determine whether additional regulatory provisions are needed, he added.
The minister was at the time responding to questions in the Senate from Independent Senator Dr Marlene Attz. She had asked whether the Government was considering additional regulatory or enforcement measures to address the growing use of windscreen-mounted devices for video calls, recording, or live streaming while driving, which may distract drivers and impair visibility and road safety.
