The government of Canada has started sending military surveillance drones to support Haitian security forces, as part of a new initiative to combat violence and the spread of armed gangs across the French-speaking Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states.
The drones, whose exact number was not disclosed for security reasons, began arriving in June and will continue to be delivered in the coming weeks.
These are unarmed, high-tech aircraft designed for intelligence and reconnaissance tasks, with the aim of strengthening the capabilities of the Haitian National Police (PNH).
