(Kaieteur News) – A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) on Friday reminded Guyanese that political loyalty should not be the determining factor in whether young people are able to access jobs or benefit from government contracts.

Attorney-at-law and party member Ronald Daniels said that it is time to have an honest conversation about the youths of this country, as the story being peddled about unprecedented economic growth does not always match the reality “being experienced by the generation that is supposed to inherit this country.”

“Guyana is earning more money than at any other point in our history, yet too many young Guyanese are still struggling to find meaningful employment, afford housing, build businesses and establish financially independent lives. We produce graduates and skilled professionals who cannot find employment in the fields in which they were trained. Engineers are taking jobs outside of engineering. Economists are working outside of economics. IT professionals are leaving the country or accepting positions unrelated to their qualifications,” he said.
