President of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union and Independent Senator, Mary Redman, says the Protection of Wages Bill is critical legislation that addresses longstanding concerns about workers being paid fairly and on time.
Senator Redman says the issue is particularly important for teachers, many of whom have experienced delays, incorrect payments and challenges accessing benefits.
She notes that some temporary teachers have gone months without receiving salaries because of delays in processing paperwork.
