(Kaieteur News) – Guyana is once again emerging as the Caribbean’s economic powerhouse, with growth projections far outstripping every other country in the region, according to the 2026 Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean published by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) on Tuesday.
ECLAC projects Guyana’s economy to expand by a staggering 19.3 per cent in 2025, followed by 16.2 per cent growth in 2026 and an even stronger 19.7 per cent in 2027. The figures put Guyana in a league of its own within the Caribbean. The region as a whole is projected to grow by 6.1 per cent in 2025, 5.6 per cent in 2026 and 7.9 per cent in 2027, the ECLAC reported noted.
However, once Guyana is removed from the calculations, Caribbean growth falls dramatically to just 1.4 per cent in 2025, 1.1 per cent in 2026 and 2.2 per cent in 2027. The report’s figures, based on information available up to 28th July, 2026, underscore the extraordinary weight Guyana’s rapidly expanding economy is now carrying within the Caribbean.
