A Chaguanas man identified by police as a suspected extortionist was killed during a “Controlled Payment Operation” conducted by officers of the Anti-Extortion Unit yesterday.
According to a TTPS media release, officers of the unit and the Home Invasion Team (HIT) were conducting investigations into a report that a Tunapuna businessman was made to pay $1,800 over a three-week period and was being told he needed to pay $3,000 monthly beginning from yesterday.
While awaiting the suspect’s arrival, the Tunapuna businessman was called and told to increase the amount to $3,500, which was done in preparation for the sting operation.
