QUESTIONS over the fitness of Skinner Park to host cycling events have been raised in the aftermath of the traffic death of cyclist Colin Wilson during the first night of the Easter International Cycling Grand Prix on Friday.
Wilson, of The Braves cycling club, lost his life after reportedly swerving during the six-lap Masters 40-49 event to avoid hitting another cyclist. He landed on the compound's fencing, sustaining a neck injury and losing a significant amount of blood.
Racing was suspended as Wilson was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he died. The event was being live-streamed and clips of the event have been widely circulated on social media since the tragedy occurred.
