FOUR thousand, five hundred of the approximately 5,500 active members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) were ordered to report for duty at the country’s four army bases by 6 p.m. yesterday.
The instructions came early yesterday afternoon following a high-level security meeting held between Commanding Officer of the Regiment Colonel Dwayne Edwards and his nine staff sergeants and four commanding battalion officers—who oversee the bases in Cumuto, La Romaine, Long Circular and Chaguaramas.
After the meeting that lasted just over two hours, a circular was sent out to all members of the TTDF stating that with immediate effect, the TTDF has been placed on State One Alert Level. This is the highest level that the TTDF can issue.
