FORMER foreign affairs and Caricom minister Dr Amery Browne yesterday described as “sinister” the complete disregard Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has shown towards Caricom.
Stating that the PNM condemned Persad-Bissessar’s statement that this country had not engaged Caricom and had no intention of engaging Caricom on the matter of US warships off the Venezuelan coast, Browne said even as Persad-Bissessar’s statement was being released, there were efforts under way to mobilise Caricom to examine the very issue with a view to building a consensus.
Speaking at a news conference at the office of the Opposition Leader in Port of Spain, Browne said: “What the Prime Minister has done...is to fire a shot across the bow of Caricom solidarity and literally sabotage our region’s ability to form a consensus and craft a united position on this very significant matter.
