IN a significant legal victory upholding religious freedom, a Muslim prisons officer has been awarded $100,000 in vindicatory damages by the High Court for the breach of his constitutional rights.
This follows a landmark High Court decision last year that permits Muslim prison officers to wear beards as part of their religious observance.
Last Wednesday, Master Rishma Ramrattan, delivered an oral decision ordering the Office of the Attorney General to pay the sum to Arshad Singh for the constitutional infringements he endured.
