(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has warned importers, wholesalers and retailers that all imported tobacco and alcoholic products must carry the requisite Excise Tax Stamps, as it intensifies its crackdown on illicit trade and tax evasion.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the GRA reminded businesses that the requirement is mandated under Regulation 212 of the Customs Act, Chapter 82:01. The Authority disclosed that several brands of illegal or uncustomed cigarettes have already been seized by its Law Enforcement arm for failing to comply with the regulation.

Among the brands seized are: Atlanta, Nashville, GT Smart, B&B, Ultra Buy, Royal Milano, Record, Aurora, Gold Mount, Pride, Capital, Star Gold, Rio, 51, Marshal, Marine, Landus, Pine, Elegance, Tradition and Capi Blue. The GRA said it remains committed to working with legitimate importers and members of the public to ensure compliance with the country’s tax, trade and border laws.
