President of The Hope Foundation Shelley Weir has passed away.
Weir, who was diagnosed with lupus back in June 1990, died around 4 a.m. today. She had been hospitalised for the past month. She was 63.
Scientifically known as systemic lupus erythematosus, lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of connective tissues and in severe cases can affect every organ and tissue of the body.
