With global stakeholders gathered in Georgetown last week to explore practical solutions to mobilise investment for biodiversity protection, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), Shawn Gurcharran, says that financial institutions can play a key role in helping to transform ideas into commercially viable projects.
He made these remarks on Saturday during the recent second Global Biodiversity Alliance (GBA) conference held in Georgetown. Gurcharran had participated in a panel discussion on ‘Biodiversity as an Economic Asset: Policy, Fiscal and Institutional Leadership,’ which explored how countries can embed nature in economic planning, budgeting and financial systems, creating the conditions for responsible investment and sustainable growth.
“What banks will bring to this entire framework that we’re trying to establish is we will bring the financial assessments that is needed to help these ventures translate from just an idea to something that is commercially viable,” the GBTI CEO noted.
