The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has imposed immediate restrictions on the use of its water supply in Tobago amid the threat of a serious shortage, with residents, visitors and businesses urged to conserve water during the Carnival season.
The restrictions, which remain in effect until further notice, prohibit the use of hosepipes and similar apparatus to water private gardens or wash private motor vehicles. The ban also covers sprinklers and pressure washers used for those purposes.
In a statement, WASA said drier conditions associated with El Niño were placing pressure on Tobago’s water resources, while increased demand during Tobago Carnival made responsible water use particularly important.
