SciÂenÂtists exÂplorÂing Trinidad and ToÂbaÂgo’s deep waÂters have colÂlectÂed what could be the first known specÂiÂmen of an unÂknown deep-sea ocÂtoÂpus, a disÂcovÂery that may repÂreÂsent a species new to sciÂence.
The specÂiÂmen was found durÂing the counÂtry’s first Trinidad and ToÂbaÂgo-led deep-sea sciÂenÂtifÂic exÂpeÂdiÂtion aboard the reÂsearch vesÂsel RV Falkor (too).
The exÂpeÂdiÂtion team anÂnounced on soÂcial meÂdia that reÂsearchers colÂlectÂed what is curÂrentÂly beÂlieved to be the onÂly specÂiÂmen of its kind ever reÂcovÂered.
