THE mas, steelpan and Jouvert bands who compete for prizes in San Fernando on Carnival Monday and Tuesday may have to do it for free this year.

This, as the San Fernando Carnival Committee (SFCC) announced yesterday that because funding has been slashed by the National Carnival Commission (NCC) they could not afford monetary rewards.

The competitions affected by the decision include Jouvert; midnight mas; Monday and Tuesday parade of the bands in the small, medium, and large categories; senior calypso monarch; and the pre-Dimanche Gras show, Kings and Queens.
