(Kaieteur News) – The PPPC Government has to be recognized for its nerve. This government has taken presumptuousness to another level. The setting was the Caribbean Shipping Association conference in Georgetown, with Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali as an honored speaker. In his usual unrestrained fashion, the president was ready to deliver. The issue under consideration was port facilities.
“This is a policy problem. And if we look at budgets across the region, you will see that this is not a priority at the moment. But we have ports that are not efficient, that were built for a completely different era and a completely different commercial environment.” We at this paper have no quarrel with that statement, since it has some substance behind it. It was when the president continued his address before the assembly of regional shippers that he left himself wide open for inspection that leaves him sounding like a man of empty words, and not much else.
