(Kaieteur News) – President, Dr. Irfaan Ali is confident that as a sovereign state, this country is not being strong-armed by the United States of America, but cannot speak to Washington’s agenda in partnering with nations like Guyana.
During a CNN interview with chief national security analyst and anchor, Jim Sciutto, the President discussed Guyana’s oil deal with American oil major, ExxonMobil. He was asked specifically whether the US is a fair partner in helping to negotiate these deals. While not offering a direct response, Ali noted that Guyana now features a wide global footprint of firms seeking to explore for oil.
“We have had excellent relationship with the US and that relationship is based on some shared values and shared priorities. So, I believe that from our perspective, we have entered into an agreement with Exxon, now Chevron is a partner, CNOOC is a partner and the government of Guyana,” President Ali explained.
