(Kaieteur News) – Eleven hospitals across Guyana were on Friday recognised by the Ministry of Health for their participation and achievements under Phase Two of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI).
The award ceremony, held in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) at the Ministry’s Conference Room, highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare, promote breastfeeding and ensure that mothers and newborns receive quality care and support at healthcare institutions nationwide.
According to the Ministry, the BFHI is a global programme designed to promote, protect and support breastfeeding by encouraging healthcare facilities to adopt practices that equip mothers with the information, guidance and assistance needed to breastfeed successfully.
