Court to rule on ‘abuse of process’ application in MV Barima disaster

(Kaieteur News) – Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir is scheduled to deliver his ruling on October 19 regarding an “abuse of process” application submitted by the defense following full disclosure of evidence by state prosecutors in the catastrophic July 18 MV Barima disaster case.
The three accused, vessel Captain Kevin Price, 40; Chief Mate Rondell Dwayne Roberts, 42; and Goods Superintendent Delon Granderson, 33, appeared virtually before the Suddie Magistrate’s Court facing murder charges stemming from the tragedy. All three men were further remanded to prison.
Defense attorneys, including Everton Lammy, representing Roberts, and Dr. Dexter Todd, representing Granderson and Price, contend that state authorities bypassed mandatory statutory procedures prior to instituting criminal charges.
