A pensioner who went in search of his five-year-old grandson, when fire broke out at their home, is now a patient at the intensive care unit at the San Fernando General Hospital.
Around 9.10 a.m. on Saturday, Jairam Balliramsingh, 68, was at his Ramai Trace, Debe, home with his five-year-old grandson when he smelt smoke.
Balliramsingh ran upstairs to search for the child who was in that portion of the two storey, concrete house. He noticed a sofa in the living room was on fire.
