HARARE, Zimbabwe (AFP) — Zimbabwean authorities recovered eight more bodies from Lake Kariba on Monday, bringing the death toll from last week’s ferry disaster to 92, police said.
The passenger ferry, a vital transport link for rural communities, capsized on Tuesday in rough waters on the vast lake bordering Zambia.
Police said by 15h00 (1300 GMT), “the Kariba Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) boat accident death toll is now 92 after eight bodies were recovered from Lake Kariba”.
