Coupled with local Roman Catholic church leaders, several leaders from other denominations expressed condolences on Pope Francis’ passing on Easter Monday.
In a phone interview yesterday, Inter Religious Organisation (IRO) president Dr Ellis Burris extended deepest condolences to the Catholic community on the passing of Pope Francis. “It’s sad. He was a great man and he left a legacy. We look forward to seeing who will be his successor. May God grant him eternal rest,” he said.
Also speaking by phone, Anglican Bishop Rev Claude Berkley, who was attending a family gathering in his native Tobago, said: “I would like to extend Easter greetings and blessings to our national community and pray the newness of Easter would drive us to greater levels of hope, faith and joy. And there must be some deeper significance to the Easter season, since Pope Francis has passed.
