Housing Programme Reveals Strong First-Half Results, Mid-Year Report Shows

Georgetown — Guyana’s national housing programme continued its rapid pace of delivery in the first half of 2026, with the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) allocating thousands of house lots, expanding infrastructure nationwide, and widening access to homeownership for women and low-income families, according to the Ministry of Finance’s Mid-Year Report 2026.

A total of 3,245 house lots were allocated across the country during the six-month period, continuing a housing drive that has already delivered more than 50,000 lots since 2020 — surpassing the government’s original manifesto target. The allocations were distributed nationally, from new tracts on the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara to major expansion in Wismar, Region 10, where more than 1,600 plots have now been allocated alongside roughly $5.5 billion in supporting infrastructure, and to new housing rising in Bartica.

Women were among the biggest beneficiaries of this year’s allocations. Of the 3,245 house lots distributed, 1,547 — or 47.7 percent — went to women, a figure the report highlights as evidence of the government’s commitment to empowering women as homeowners. Alongside land allocations, 1,930 women also received entrepreneurial training, pairing property ownership with the tools to build a business or expand a household’s income.
