Larceny of the person, known as “snatching” of jewelry, wallets, and handbags is the most common crime occurring in the city of Port of Spain.
As shoppers flock to the capital city in the days leading up to Christmas, Supt Glen Charles called on citizens to assist the police—and themselves—by “being cognizant of their surroundings, avoid walking with large sums of cash and jewelry, and be careful of people coming to sell fake gold and pretending that it is authentic”.
He was speaking on Wednesday at the statutory meeting of the Port of Spain City Corporation during which 46 municipal police officers received certificates of commendation for going above and beyond the call of duty.
