Primus slams government for silence in Chinese landing ongoing dispute

(Kaieteur News) – Opposition Member of Parliament Odessa Primus has issued an indictment on the government, accusing the administration of demonstrating “selective urgency” by mobilising state machinery to counter political opponents while ignoring the plight of vulnerable Indigenous communities.

Speaking on the re-emerging land dispute at Chinese Landing, an Indigenous village in Region One currently facing incursions by illegal miners and heavy equipment, MP Primus highlighted a contrast in how the government deploys its resources and public messaging.

“As soon as the Honourable Leader of the Opposition Azruddin Mohamed coughs, sneezes, walks, wakes up, or says a word, the government sends out all its ammunition,” Primus stated. “They find the time, the microphones, and the urgency to address him and the political opposition. So where is that same urgency for the people of Chinese Landing?”
