An M16 rifle was recovered in August Town, St Andrew, today following an alleged shootout between the police and gunmen.

The police were reportedly conducting an intelligence-led operation around midday, checking caves in the area, when they came under gunfire.

The fire was returned, and during a search of the area, the high-powered weapon was reportedly found.
